Police arrest gunman in Anambra hotel, recover arms

The surveillance operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a lone gunman at a popular hotel (name withheld) in Awka, the state capital.


According to the Anambra State Police Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was arrested after the police operatives observed his suspicious movements at the hotel premises.


Ikenga said, “The operatives, who observed the suspect prowling around the premises on July 20, 2023, accosted him and conducted a search on his person.


“One English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.

“The suspect, who gave his name as Akuchieani Echezona, a male resident of Ifite Awka, was disarmed, arrested and taken into custody.


“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate the source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going armed to the hotel.”


He added that the suspect is to be arraigned in court at the conclusion of the investigation.

He said the administration has crashed naira and removed the fuel subsidy. He said that the administration has raised electricity tariff and fuel prices
