CHECK YOURSELF, SOME PEOPLE UNDER YOU CANNOT BREATHE
George Floyd
I have been obsessed with this news, it has given me sleepless night. Never felt such pain for something that doesn't even concern me.
This is not just about racism. It's about being consumed by hate such that you have no feeling of empathy for another. It's also about holding onto a negative attitude such that it erodes your sense of reasoning.
Everyone of us is as guilty as that cop, maybe not to the extent of taking life.
Some people, when they attain a particular position in life, people under them can't breathe. Some just hate their fellow human being for nothing, maybe because their religion is different, maybe they are not your candidate, maybe they are not your class.
There's always one insignificant reason to justify why you dislike someone. This particular cop has lost his job, his wife has left him, the whole country is thrown into chaos just because of hate. Just because he refused to hear a plea.
Some people can't let go of negative feeling towards someone. You allow jealousy, lack of forgiveness cultivate in your heart, and of course it germinates to hatred and escalates to your own destruction.
Before you condemn that cop, check yourself. Some people under you, in your office, your house, in your community or close to you CAN'T BREATHE!!!
After a thoughtful consideration of the George Floyd's case, I have come to the conclusion that this is more than just a matter of White Supremacy, but one that should draw us to the point of asking ourselves the question, On whose NECK am I KNEELING?
Is there someone that I am disrespecting, demeaning or denying his/her rights because he/she is of a different caste, ethnicity, race, nationality, socioeconomic class, or a subordinate in my sphere of operation? Then I am no better than the officer that knelt on the neck of George Floyd for close to 9 minutes until he died.
When you don't create employment for the youths, you are kneeling on their necks!
When people suffer to vote for you, and after you win, you turn your back on them, you are kneeling on their necks!
When you loot the treasury of your Government and burn down the building thereby bringing hunger to the people, you are kneeling on their necks!
When you are in a position in of authority and you’re unstable in your ways, always saying one thing and doing another thing, oga you are kneeling on our necks!
When you owe workers’ salaries and other entitlement for too long, damn it, you are kneeling on their necks!
When you are a boss in the office and all you do is to frustrate your subordinates by stopping or delaying their promotion, Oga-Boss, you are kneeling on their necks!
When you give appointment only to your tribesmen, to the detriment of others who are more competent, you are kneeling on their necks...THEY CAN'T BREATHE...IT HURTS!
When you are only a member of a team and not a team player, get out...you are kneeling on the team’s neck!
When you are a Government official, religious leader, traditional ruler, Elder, youth leader etc and you only support and approve what will benefit you presently but suffer the future generation, hmmmm...you have knelt and already killed that generation before they are born!
Inner reform of the individual, legislations and systematic changes are urgently needed to avert the next kneeling unto death.
May the good Lord help us to refrain from choking people around us to the point of discomfort and even death either physically, physiologically, emotionally, financially or spiritually!
